What this quote means is that life is similar to football because if you want to go far you have to try and make sure not to fail there will be some challenges on the way but if you know were you have to go you will succeed in life. You wont go far when you are lost in the middle of no where because you wont know where your goal is at. A example of this is when you have a goal in mind that you want to accomplish well just imagine you are in a football game and you are going to reach the goalpost to accomplish your goal and if you score then you will be proud that you did. If you don't go far well you can always get up and try again to make sure you did just don't give up.
