What this quote means is that be careful with who you hang out with because they can either destroy you or make you a better person. For example if you have friends that help you they care about you but if you hang out with people who do bad stuff they will destroy you. if you don't care then you are making yourself look like a fool and making your life harder than it should be. you want to be wise and live life the best you could not waste it in something that is not worth. if you want to be wise and successful in life hang out with wise people that they know what their doing. If you decide not to be successful you can be causing negative consequences.
